Weren’t you were banned for life?

Hard to make a reasoned assessment of match day atmosphere in the stadium if you haven’t been in there since the Burnley game in March 2018.

Everything about the actual stadium just reeks of a temporary mess, a bodge job.

Perfect example from today with the Yids managing to storm the Trevor Brooking concourse via just kicking a separating door open.

Name me any other ground in this country where things are that lax!

Hate everything about the soulless bowl with a passion.Like many of my mates will go to away games and watch the home games in Plaistow.

I've not been to the 'new' place yet, but I reckon in 5-10 years (which is not long in the grand scheme of things) the inside and outside of the stadium will be better, and dare I say it the move may well have worked out, and the Boleyn really will be a distant memory by then. We all loved the Boleyn, but let's be honest Green Street was an absolute shithouse, albeit our shithouse, and the stadium was lopsided with pretty big gaps to the pitch on the east and west side.

Loved Upton Park but loving the London Stadium. Bored with the moaners. Stay in the stadium after the game and have a beer. Stroll to Stratford and get a seat on the central line. No crowd, no stop/go, no problem.

Re: Hypothetical Who would forgo our PL status for playing at Upton Park
I loved the old pre-development Boleyn, but the upgraded one was quite sterile at times and didn’t have the intimidating atmosphere of the 1970’s and 80’s Boleyn.

I have embraced the OS from the beginning, but it has improved more so in recent times. As most of us knew it would. During the early days of the OS I felt that a lot of supporters, who didn’t want the move, would just moan and cause problems for the sake of doing so.

The old ground had a capacity of just 35,000 at the end and the surrounding area was limited for parking and public transport. But now we can add many more fellow Hammers on match days and the atmosphere there is rocking when the team is playing well and everyone is in the mood to make it so.

Already, we have seen further development taking place around the area and it won’t be such a wasteland as time goes by.

I have a particular affinity to the old Stratford in any case as that’s where the majority the maternal side of my family had lived and worked from the wartime era up until the 90’s.

Dan, Aka, I will try and see if I can do that at Christmas. Thanks, good to know it’s possible. I had my routes sorted at Upton Park to avoid the crowds. I avoided cueing for Upton Park tube.

Thursday night I stayed ‘til the end, then walked to Leyton, as I can’t be arsed with Stratford afterwards. Was back at debden by half ten.

I'm a mild-mannered liberal law-abiding chap. No barging aside the hi-vizes for me. But the ground to the High Street and on to Stratford Station can be achieved in a couple of ways with no steward or SGB encounters.

I haven't been to the OS but was at UP for many years before leaving the UK. It had its moments but it could also be flat as a pancake. I think the appeal was that it was organic and a genuine part of a community with a storied history.

That said, I think we outgrew it as we really had nowhere else to expand - therefore we should not look back. The OS was in many ways the right move, its just a shame we literally have no ways to make it more football friendly

Yep, also the Lord Morpeth and Eleanor Arms.

Plus the pubs and bars at Hackney Wick.

Some of my old local pubs have benefitted from the move. The Bow Bells (lefty cunthole in the week), The Little Driver (best pub in the area), Rusty Bike (I lived behind it for 27 years), Coborn Arms and I think a few drink in the Wentworth as well.

I miss the Vic, Queens, Black Lion, though.

Well said mate! Pre Taylor report it was heaven here on earth! Never a dull moment. Absolutely fuckin loved it. After the Taylor report, far too many times when it was far too quiet. Hardly ever happened when we were stood on the terraces.

Would I go back to The Boleyn Ground with the team we have now? In a heartbeat. However, I can't, so for better or worse, I can spend the rest of my years whinging and whining about something I cannot change, or I can make the most of what we have today.

And when the new place is rocking, the sound is fucking immense.

Nope besides the all seated Upton park wasn't a patch on the old ground pre 94 .

Re: Hypothetical Who would forgo our PL status for playing at Upton Park
The all seater upton Park was a bit shit. Atmosphere was regularly flat and there was a huge gap inbetween weet and east stands and the pitch.
The old ground was great. Loved the North and South banks.
But it's a fact that all seater stadiums are not only here to stay, but will never have the atmosphere of old.

It's time to get used to it and move on. London stadium isn't perfect by a long chalk, it's sterile and shit outside. We sit in the corner so there's no gap, but I hate the huge gap inbetween the stands. For me it needs a few changes and the lack of long term planning when it was built js unforgivable.

Over the past few years I've got more and more used to it and it feels a lot more like "home" now. And I'm enjoying the football for the first time in a long time.

Re: Hypothetical Who would forgo our PL status for playing at Upton Park
The Upton Park of pre- Taylor Report was a magical place but you can't turn back the clock and the atmosphere at the LS can, and has been, great.

As others have said I reckon that one day, probably not for 20-30 years we will rebuild the LS as a proper football ground.
